BEIJING, August 14 (TMTPOST) — Electric car giant Tesla has declined to deliver Model 3 cars to consumers who made the purchase on Pinduoduo, a popular group buying platform in China. The purchases on Pinduoduo are not in compliance with Tesla’s delivery policy, said a delivery specialist at Tesla.
“It is suspected that the purchase was made by Pinduoduo or other business on behalf of you, which violates Tesla’s policy as this is an act of hiding authentic purchase information from the company,” reads a message sent to a consumer in Wuhan who was denied a car delivery. “Tesla has already clarified that the company never authorized the group buying on Pinduoduo in an official statement. We advise you contact the business that you had transactions with in regard to the purchase of Tesla Model 3 or apply for a refund.”
If the Tesla Model 3 cars are going to be delivered by Yimaiche, the partner of Pinduoduo's group buying activities, then the activities can be considered as false advertising because the cars will be considered as second-hand cars that were previously purchased by Yimaiche. This means the cars delivered to the consumers are not “brand new cars” literally speaking, which constitutes false advertising, noted the specialist.
