TMTPOST -- Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. is officially stepping into the AI hardware sector with the Quark AI Glasses, which opened for presale early on October 24, ahead of their planned December release.

The product marks the e-commerce and technology giant’s first self-developed AI wearable, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence into daily life while leveraging Alibaba’s expansive digital ecosystem.

According to Barron’s China, the Quark AI Glasses debuted at midnight on Alibaba’s Tmall official store—the Quark Smart Devices Flagship Store. Within seven hours, the device became the second top-selling smart glasses brand on Tmall during the Double 11 shopping festival, trailing only behind Xreal. Early orders indicate shipments will start on December 8, confirming the December launch timeline.

Pricing for the device has generated particular interest. While earlier announcements cited a minimum 88VIP price of 3,699 RMB, some early buyers reportedly paid as little as 3,329 RMB. Non-88VIP members see a starting price of 3,999 RMB, reflecting a deliberate pricing gap designed to enhance membership benefits and incentivize purchases through Alibaba’s broader commercial ecosystem. In addition to Tmall, pre-orders are also open on JD.com and Douyin, though each platform currently provides only a single 1 RMB pre-order link.

A Quark insider told Barron’s China that current presale prices are promotional and not the final retail price, which will be officially announced upon launch. During Double 11, the company expects Tmall’s subsidies to offer consumers the best opportunity to buy the glasses ahead of the official release.

The Quark AI Glasses S1 are designed to showcase Alibaba’s AI and ecosystem capabilities. Built on the proprietary Qwen model, the glasses feature an on-the-go AI assistant for daily Q&A, life service scenarios, travel, shopping, and payment tasks. The device also integrates Alibaba ecosystem services, including Gaode (Amap) near-eye navigation, Alipay secure payments, and Taobao image-based product search.

Hardware specifications are aimed at high performance and user comfort. The Quark AI Glasses S1 utilize dual flagship processors—Qualcomm AR1 and Bestechnic BES2800—and feature dual optical engines for binocular display.

The display positions are adjustable in multiple directions, supporting natural eye movement while maintaining visual comfort. This “invisible screen” design allows information to appear directly in users’ line of sight without requiring head-down viewing.

Unlike standard industry approaches using clip-on or magnetic prescription lenses, the Quark AI Glasses adopt a fully customized one-piece lens design, offering superior optical performance, integration, and stability. Battery life is extended via a dual-battery system with hot-swappable main batteries, while the secondary battery keeps the device operational. With an optional battery case, users can achieve all-day usage.

The glasses sport a minimalist aesthetic, including a slim frame, ultra-narrow temples, and a thin lens rim, giving the device the look of conventional eyewear. Balanced front-to-back weight distribution ensures a comfortable wearing experience.

Alibaba has also addressed typical AI glasses challenges, introducing SuperRaw Night Mode for low-light photography and dual stabilization technology for smooth video capture. Together, these features position the Quark AI Glasses as a flagship showcase of Alibaba’s AI capabilities and ecosystem synergy, signaling the company’s broader ambitions in the emerging AI hardware sector.
