Xiaomi 14 Series Sold 1.45 Million in Ten Days, Setting New Flagship Record

Initial sales of Xiaomi 14 series in just five minutes since purchase is available jumped six-fold compared with its predecessor, and the device broke the previous year's record of first day of sale at four major Chinese online retailer marketplaces.

BEIJING, November 13 (TMTPost)— Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi Corporation is making new sales record of its flagship mobile.

Xiaomi has sold a total of 1.4474 million units of 14 series devices in the first ten days after the model went on sale in China, namely, from October 13 to November 10, Chinese news media outlet Wall Street Insight cited data from the leading market research firm on Monday. The statistics suggested Xiaomi 14 refreshed the company’s sales record for the premium flagship since launch.  

In the 44th week of this year, or the week ended November 5, Xiaomi took a 21.9% market share by sales and was ranked as the first in the market of Android system-powered smartphone in China, according to the market research firm data that the Wall Street Insight learned from the supply chain. The data showed Xiaomi is also the only Chinese mobile vendor that delivered a positive growth that week, with a sequential increase in market share of 8.9 percentage points, followed by Huawei and Honor, which obtained share of 13% and 12.8%, respectively. The smartphone sales share of Huawei and Honor each dropped 2.8 percentage points from the previous week. 

The achievement Xiaomi achieved came as Singles’ Day, China’s most important online shopping festival, was in full swing. Xiaomi last Friday said it sold more than RMB 22.4 billion (US$3.11 billion) worth of products from October 23 to November 11 on platforms such as Alibaba’s Tmall and Taobao, JD.com, Pinduoduo and TikTok’s Chinese sister Douyin, shattering sales record during the Singles’ Day promotion period. 

Xiaomi 14 smartphone, backed by Qualcomm's cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and Xiaomi's proprietary HyperOS software, started at RMB 3,999 (US$546) for its base model and the premium version 14 Pro started at RMB4,999.

Xiaomi has previously announced surprisingly booming sales soon after Xiaomi 14 series were available late October. It said sales of Xiaomi 14 series in just five minutes since purchase is available jumped six-fold compared with its predecessor 13 series. It also said the latest series broke the previous year’s record of first day of sale at four major Chinese online retailer marketplaces, including Tmall, JD.com, Douyin, and Kuaishou, within the first four hours of its initial sale, and the total transaction value across platforms topped RMB10 billion.

Sales of Xiaomi 14 series have exceeded 1 million units in a week and the phones are still in severe short supply, so the company is expediting the production and delivery, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun wrote on the microblogging social media Weibo last Tuesday. The robust launch "reinforces signs of the market bottoming out," said Will Wong, an analyst with industry research firm IDC, last week.

Xiaomi’s smartphone momentum will continue into the fourth quarter of the year, propelled by the brisk sales of M14 series, and the upcoming Redmi K70 smartphone launch could become a near-term catalyst, as the model is equipped with Snapdragon Gen 3 SoC, a critical selling point that has been observed in M14 series and bringing more upside to total smartphone shipment in that quarter, HSBC Global Research expected in a note last week. HSBC rasied smartphone shipment forecasts for Xiaomi by 7% in 2023 to 150 million units and by 6% in 2024 to 160 million units.
