BEIJING, October 10 (TMTPOST) –Tesla's Shanghai plant delivered 83,000 units in September, up 8% from August, breaking its monthly sales record of 78,906 units in June, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released data on Sunday.

In the first three quarters of this year, Tesla's deliveries have equaled last year's total production of 480,000 units. Last month, the wholesale sales of passenger NEVs totaled 660,000 units, up 95 percent year-on-year. Domestic retail sales of NEVs are expected to reach 590,000 units in September.

Tesla China's deliveries in September climbed 8% from August, outpacing the wholesale electric vehicle sales increase from last month in China. It has also set a new record for Tesla's Shanghai plant since it started production in December 2019, with a sales record of 78,906 units in June this year.

Tesla accelerated deliveries in China after suspending much of its production of Shanghai's Gigafactory in July for an upgrade.

The upgrade at the China plant is reportedly aimed at increasing the plant's weekly production from about 17,000 units in June to about 22,000 units and increasing annual capacity from 450,000 units to 750,000 units. The Gigafactory is Tesla's highest-capacity factory, and its upgrade has boosted its production of new vehicles in China and significantly shortened delivery times.

Tesla also released a report on its third quarter of 2022 vehicle production and delivery. It is reported that Tesla produced over 365,000 vehicles and delivered over 343,000 units in the third quarter. Delivery performance for the third quarter was at an all-time high, up 42.4 percent year-on-year and 34.9 percent from the last quarter.

It is worth noting that Tesla previously set a goal of "50% annual delivery growth", meaning that to achieve this goal, the company needs to realize more than 450,000 deliveries in the last quarter of this year.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that "Model Y is expected to be the best-selling car in the world." According to the latest data, Tesla delivered 325,200 Model 3 and Model Y units worldwide in the third quarter, accounting for 94.6 percent of total deliveries.
