Alibaba Cloud President, Key Members Reportedly Resign

Alibaba Cloud China's president and several other high-level core members are resigning from the company, Leiphone.com reported, citing several sources.

BEIJING, April 13 (TMTPOST) — Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group’s cloud arm Alibaba Cloud is undergoing major senior management changes, according to a news report from Leiphone.com.

Alibaba Cloud China’s president and several other high-level core members are resigning from the company, Leiphone.com reported, citing several sources.

Alibaba Cloud China’s president Ren Geng (level M6) will be leaving the company. The company’s vice president Huang Haiqing will replace Ren as the new president, overseeing 16 regions in the Chinese market. Ren joined Alibaba in 2018, answering directly to Alibaba Group’s vice president Cai Yinghua. Huang had worked for a number of tech giants, such as Dell, IBM, Oracle and Tencent Cloud.

Cai previously worked as the president of Huawei Enterprise Business Group China. Cai joined Huawei in 2002 and had served in several different markets, including central Asia, Eastern Europe and China.

In addition, the company’s vice president and cloud intelligent sales management and ecosystem development department’s general manager Guo Jijun (level M6) has completed its resignation process. Guo Yinghua will temporarily take Guo Jijun’s place, responsible for overseeing the operation of the two departments.

Pundits had commented that it is normal for Alibaba Cloud to undergo management changes when a new fiscal year comes. However, the personnel changes might be triggered by business adjustments as well, pundits said. Alibaba’s 2021 Q4 report shows that Alibaba Cloud’s revenue growth slowed down to 20% in Q4, lowest since the business group started releasing statistics on its business operation. Alibaba Cloud has achieved profitability for five consecutive quarters and maintained growth. The company continued to rank first in the Chinese market with revenues of 72.4 billion yuan.

Alibaba Cloud, also known as Aliyun, is Chines e-commerce giant Alibaba Group’s cloud technology arm. Founded in 2009, the company provides cloud computing services to online businesses and Alibaba’s own e-commerce ecosystem.
