BEIJING, February 10 (TMTPOST) — Japanese video game giant Nintendo announced on Thursday 22 new games for its Switch platform in 2022.

The game titles announced by Nintendo include Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, etc. A DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Version was also announced. The DLC will be available for users who have joined Nintendo Switch Online. However, further details of the highly anticipated Nintendo-exclusive Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong were not revealed.

Gamers on the Internet speculated that Nintendo announced a large number of games so as to boost the sales of Nintendo Switch and secure its leading position in the console market.

Although mobile games have dominated the game market in China, an increasing number of gamers have grown tired of mobile games that generally lack quality and turning back to console games. “Mobile games’ quality varies greatly from each other. Some mobile games require games to pay tons of money to play. They also ask you to do all kinds of daily tasks. It’s getting boring,” a player told the Beijing News. “Console games have far better graphics and playability. They have more diverse content too.”

Sony and Microsoft have also made new moves to boost their video game business by launching new consoles and game titles.

Console and game sales on e-commerce platforms surged before the Spring Festival, a console vendor told the Beijing News. “Consoles such as Switch and PS5 were all sold out. Nearly a hundred consoles were sold in one week,” the vendor recalled.

Nintendo’s console business was heavily impacted by the global chip shortage in 2021. However, the company’s Switch sales remained strong, reaching 100 million. Industry experts estimated that Switch Pro might be launched as soon as next year.
