BEIJING, December 17 (TMTPOST)— Nine of Tencent’s mobile applications have been allowed for updates, including QQ Music and WeCom, a business communication tool developed by the WeChat team, the Chinese tech giant confirmed to domestic media outlet The Paper on Friday.

The Paper found that users of the iOS devices now can download the updated QQ Music 11.0.5 version, but the music app hasn’t updated in Google Play Store yet.

Other Tencent’s mainstream apps such as two popular social media WeChat and QQ as well as Honor of Kings, the world’s first mobile game which grossed more than US$10 billion since its debut in 2015, are still pending for the regulator’s approval. In Apple’s App Store, WeChat and QQ haven’t updated for about a month and three weeks respectively, while the latest version of Honor of Kings was the one updated two months ago.

This is the first time for Tencent to update some of its apps since China’s regulator issued a suspension order about four weeks ago. Tencent told The Paper that nine of its products received permission after the authority’s review and were gradually resuming updates.

 Tencent was asked not to roll out any new app or update existing app unless the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) proved qualified through its technology inspection, China Central Television (CCTV) cited a temporary administrative guidance from the ministry on November 24. The state media noted that the regulator found a total of nine products of Tencent violated relevant laws and regulations during the special initiative to crack down practices that infringed on users’ interests this year. And the report stressed all the stakeholders including the industry, businesses, platforms and individual users are required to join in protection for online data security when the Personal Information Protection Law of China, effective on the beginning of this month, defined directions of the internet regulation. Tencent later responded that its apps remained functional and available for download and highlighted its continuous works to improve user protection in its apps.
