TMTPOST --  TikTok parent ByteDance Ltd. is partnering with three U.S. tech giants for cloud gaming, a popular form of online gaming that runs video games on remote servers and streams the game's output directly to a user's device.

Nvidia announced at the CES 2025 trade show it is expanding GeForce NOW to more platforms through the collaboration with ByteDance, Apple Inc. and Meta Platforms, Inc. The partnership will bring Nvidia’s game streaming service to Apple Vision Pro spatial computers, Meta Quest 3 and 3S and Pico virtual- and mixed-reality devices with Nvidia technologies including ray tracing and Nvidia DLSS, a suite of neural rendering technologies that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to boost FPS, reduce latency, and improve image quality.

Nvidia said the Steam Deck’s portability paired with GeForce NOW opens up new possibilities for high-fidelity gaming everywhere. The native GeForce NOW app will offer up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second with high dynamic range on Valve’s innovative Steam Deck handheld when connected to a TV, streaming from GeForce RTX-powered gaming rigs in the cloud.

Nvidia said players can get immersed in a new dimension of big-screen gaming as GeForce NOW brings AAA titles to life on Apple Vision Pro spatial computers, Meta Quest 3 and 3S and Pico virtual- and mixed-reality headsets. AAA content from celebrated publishers is coming to the cloud. Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment, known for iconic titles such as Fallout: New Vegas, will join GeForce NOW. The cloud gaming platform will also bring DOOM: The Dark Ages from id Software, the legendary studio behind the DOOM franchise. All will be available at launch on PC this year.

Nvidia didn’t provide exact start date for the launch of GeForce NOW on new platforms. It said later this month, the aforementioned supported devices will give members access to an extensive library of games to stream through GeForce NOW by opening the browser to play.geforcenow.com when the newest app update, version 2.0.70, starts rolling out later this month. Members can transform the space around them into a personal gaming theater with GeForce NOW. The streaming experience on these devices will support gamepad-compatible titles for members to play their favorite PC games on a massive virtual screen.

In addition, Nvidia said it is launching the first GeForce RTX-powered data center in India in the first half of this year, making gaming more accessible around the world. This follows the launch of GeForce NOW in Japan last year, as well as in Colombia and Chile, to be operated by GeForce NOW Alliance partner Digevo.

Cloud gaming has become wildly popular in the past few years because it brings games to a wider audience, without hardware constraints. Video game platforms and hardware makers such as Nvidia, and major tech companies offer their own cloud subscription services. Some games are free to play, just by creating an account. Xbox Cloud Gaming, for example, offers Fortnite for free.

China's cloud gaming market was estimated to top RMB12 billion in 2023. The market is expected to maintain a compound growth rate of 20%-30% in the future, underpinned by technical advantages in hardware, game loading and end equipment. As players like Nvidia in cloud gaming continue to ramp up their expansion, the industry is well on track to accelerate.
