HarmonyOS Head Resigns from Huawei

Several tech bloggers on Chinese social media suggested that Wang has already joined Kaihong, a tech company based in Shenzhen that specializes in the Internet of Things.

BEIJING, May 23 (TMTPOST) — Huawei HarmonyOS’s leading developer and Huawei Consumer BG Software Engineering Department President Wang Chenglu has resigned from Huawei, according to a news report from IT Home.

Wang’s verified employer on Weibo, which was Huawei, has been removed, echoing the news report.

Several tech bloggers on Chinese social media suggested that Wang has already joined Kaihong, a tech company based in Shenzhen that specializes in the Internet of Things.

Huawei has not responded to 36Kr’s request for comment on the news report.

Wang had been working at Huawei for 22 years. He led the research and development of Huawei’s HarmonyOS, a distributed operating system developed by Huawei to collaborate and interconnect with multiple smart devices.

Wang joined Huawei in 1998 and used to serve as the President of Huawei’s Central Software Institute. In 2015, Wang was transferred to the company’s Consumer BG and tasked with leading the research and development of Huawei Ark Complier and EMUI.

It is worth noting that Kaihong, the company that Wang has left Huawei for, is closely associated with Huawei. Kaihong’s founder Chen Yuhong is also the founder of Chinasoft International, who now serves as the company’s CEO. Information on enterprise record platform Tianyancha shows Kaihong’s shareholders include Shenzhen Habo, an investment founder under Huawei.

Kaihong is controlled by Chinasoft International. The company was established to take on projects involving Huawei’s HarmonyOS. Chinasoft International is prohibited from operating businesses involving HarmonyOS because of the Guidelines on National Confidential Information System Integration Qualification. As a result, Chinasoft International, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Shenzhen Municipal and Huawei jointly established Kaihong to take on HarmonyOS projects as a company wholly funded by domestic investors in China.

It is said that Wang will enjoy great flexibility in the research and development and promotion of HarmonyOS at Kaihong.
