The coronavirus epidemic outbreak struck the nation and its people totally out of the blue.

Both industry and individuals right across the country have undergone a range of emotions in coming to terms with the epidemic, from confusion to acceptance to brave confrontation.

People have been experiencing mixed emotions: anxiety merged with hope, the pain of coming to grips with lives lost, and touching moments, as people all over the country come together to battle the crisis.

There has been a myriad of tales: some infuriated us with the foolishness they displayed; others warmed our hearts.

TMTPOST has received numerous photos from our readers. We are exhibiting them here to open a window of communication and documentation.

The message

The message "Farewell to Li Wenliang" was written into the snow along the banks of Tonghui River in Beijing. Li Wenliang, an ophthalmologist at the Central Hospital of Wuhan, is now commonly known as the whistleblower of the outbreak. He issued an early warning on the epidemic back on 30 December 2019 and was hence reprimanded along with seven other doctors by the Wuhan police for "posting false information on the internet". Later, Mr. Li contracted the new coronavirus pneumonia during clinical consultation. All medical efforts failed and his death was announced at 2:58 a.m., 7 February 2020 in the Central Hospital of Wuhan. (Beijing, February 7, 2020)
