BEIJING, July 15 (TMTPOST)— Chinese major smartphone maker Xiaomi for the first time took second place, with a 17% share of worldwide shipments in the second quarter of 2021 , according to the technology market analyst firm Canalys.
The quarter witnessed an annual growth of 12% in global shipments and Samsung, the leading vendor, got a 19% share of smartphones shipped, while Apple, surpassed by xiaomi, had 14%, and Vivo and Oppo each had 10%, maintaining the top five strength.
Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton said Xiaomi is growing overseas business rapidly, with more than 300% increase in shipments in Latin America, 150% in Africa and 50% in Western Europe. However, Ben Stanton noted Xiaomi’s average selling price is about 40% and 75% cheaper than Samsung and Apple respectively, so the company needs to take priority over high-end devices’ sales increase.
