BEIJING, May 10 (TMTPOST) — The Cyberspace Administration of China has included regulatory probe into stan activities on the Internet, including crack down on cyberbullying and other irrational behaviors, responding to the recent milk-wasting scandal caused by Chinese talent show Youth With You season 3.
Youth With You Season is a popular boy band talent show in China. In season 3, the program cooperated with Mengniu Dairy and allowed the audience to purchase Mengniu products to get votes for their idols. The votes are the QR code inside the bottle caps. The fans can scan the QR code and vote for their favorite stars on the show.
The Cyberspace Administration of China has commented that the irrational stanning activities are attributed to Internet platforms’ inactions, businesses’ market manipulation and extreme stanning culture. Since the votes come from the milk products, it is naturally for people to purchase more to get votes, said the administration.
According to the administration, more rules and regulations will be set up and communication with the celebrities’ teams and fan groups will be enhanced to ensure that people can support their idols in a rational way.
