BEIJING, May 3 (TMTPOST)— As of 2:14 p.m. Beijing time of May 3, the box office in China’s Labor Day holiday starting from May 1 have topped RMB1 billion (US$154 million), , including presales, according to Chinese film data platform Dengta. This is the latest evidence of one of the largest world's movie markets' strong rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dengta expected, in its Analysis for the Trend of China’s Movie Industry, domestic titles in this year’s five-day holiday would earn at least RMB1.8 billion in total, almost 18% more than the box office in the same holiday period of 2019.
A report released by another Chinese platform Maoyan in January shows that the country's total box office revenue reached RMB20.417 billion (US$3.129 billion) in 2020, making it the largest movie market in the world for the first time, amid the global industry impact of the pandemic.
