BEIJING, April 30 (TMTPOST) — CEO of Huawei’s consumer business Richard Yu acknowledged U.S. sanctions’ impact on Huawei’s smartphone businesses on his WeChat moments.
A report from market research firm Canalys shows vivo was the top selling smartphone brand in China in Q1 this year, shipping out 21.6 million units and registering a year-on-year shipment growth of 79%. OPPO ranked second on the report in terms of shipment, while Huawei dropped to third place. Huawei only shipped out 14.9 million units in Q1. Honour, after separating from Huawei, ranked the 6th with a shipment of around five million units.
Yu admitted on his WeChat moments that the U.S.’s frequent and increasingly tough sanctions on Huawei (four rounds of sanctions within two years) had taken a toll on Huawei’s consumer business, making it extremely difficult for the company to ship out products. Yu believed that Huawei had lost the high-end market to Apple, while losing the mid and low-end market to Samsung, OPPO, vivo and Xiaomi.
