BEIJING, September 19 (TMTPOST) – The city NGP of XPeng Motors has been piloted in Guangzhou targeting local P5 model users, XPeng Motors officially announced last Saturday.

XPeng Motors said that the first batch of city NGP functions is only available in Guangzhou because high-level assisted driving on city roads needed to be supported by relevant policies. But it is striving to make the city NGP available to more cities as soon as possible.

The Guangzhou Municipal Government has successively launched policies to support industrial development, and the scope of local test road opening has been gradually expanded.

On July 19, the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government issued "Several Measures to Support the Stabilization and Strengthening of the Automotive and Core Parts Industry in Guangzhou", which included supportive policies from various aspects such as the industry chain supply chain system and the automotive industry park.

The urban NGP is intelligent navigation-assisted driving that enables the vehicle to perform a variety of dynamic tasks after the user sets the destination and initiates navigation, and activates the function on the available urban roads. Data shows that the overall efficiency of urban NGP passage is close to 90 percent of manual navigation.

XPeng Motors' CEO He Xiaopeng said during the Q2 2022 conference call that the company reached more than 65% highway NGP mileage penetration in the second quarter while predicting that P5 sales would grow along with the expanded availability of city-level NGPs.

Before using the city NGP function, users need to watch a safety training video and pass a test to understand the boundaries of the function and master the correct way to use it. Also, City NGP has a "Novice Mode", which requires users to experience the system's capabilities and limitations on suitable roads to become familiar with the human-machine interaction and to unlock all available roads only after using City NGP for a total of more than 100 km and 7 days from the first activation.
